Ep. 79 | Something New (1964)

Sure, "A Day In The Life" is ok, and "Tomorrow Never Knows" is fine, but only one Beatles album closes with maybe their greatest song, "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand".

It was certainly Something New for Capitol to close their third Beatles album in German, not to mention generously including 5 songs fans in ’64 had already purchased a few weeks beforehand. (#NowOnCapitol!) And yet, because it’s The Freaking Beatles, it’s such a fun and uniquely Capitol album.

Tony and T.J. fawn over this million-seller and along the way ask the hard questions they don’t address in Liverpool, like:

🐸 Is the Muppet Show’s "Mahna Mahna" best heard in stereo or "Mahnaphonic"?

🍨 Why did Paul ask a witness to #coldstone murder to drum on Press To Play’s "Angry"?

🥪 Any of y’all ever spread Heinz Helmer on a sammich?

Ep. 15.2 | DELUXE REISSUE: Beatle Bottoms

Beatle Bottoms. To some, bottoms is a synonym for “tushie”, as they say in the industry. For Tony & T.J., it’s their least favourite Fab 4 songs. And boy do they just disagree. But there ain’t no good guy, there ain’t no bad guy, there’s only this deluxe reissue of one of our favorite early episodes, reproduced for disc by Grandmaster Casey.

[Originally released September 5, 2020]

Clickbait: Are T.J. and Tony in a Beatles cult? The answer may dumbfound you!!

In this Labor Day Spectacular (not that spectacular really) T.J. and Tony comb the floor of the Sea of Holes in search of the least fab Beatles songs. Listen for adjectives like "treacly" and "loathsome"(!).

Also included are hot takes on R.E.M. vs Barenaked Ladies, and a very brief tribute to short form improv.

Meanwhile, T.J. discloses one of his "Beatle nightmares" while Tony wears out his “Beatle bag.”

Fact cheque: "It’s All Too Much" was recorded at De Lane Lea Studios and "Baby, You’re A Rich Man" at Olympic Sound Studios.

Neither T.J. nor Tony can remember what a clavioline is.

Listen to the Beatle Bottoms playlist here.

Ep. 23.2 | DELUXE REISSUE: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Film Review)

After a whole flurry of November drops and live episodes and whatnot, this week the Untitled Beatles Podcast gets back (see what we did there?) to what we do best: Super Deluxe Reissues of our early classics. We're revisiting our review of the critically unclaimed 1978 Sgt. Pepper film, this time replete with music cues, needle drops, and other sonic shenanigans.

[Originally published 31 October 2020]

It’s the silliest episode to date...

For Halloween, T.J. and Tony dissect the 1978 box office flop Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Robert Stigwood, Peter Frampton and the very lupine Bros. Gibb have a lot of ‘splainin' to do. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS...and fact-check buzzers!

While inside, T.J. takes Steve Martin and Sir George Martin to task and Tony offers a hot take on the television show Emergency!

Due to a technical error, Tony was forced to put on a T.J. costume and re-record T.J.’s keyboard parts in post, with note-for-note precision. He hopes he passed the audition.

Dust off your cheaply-made Pepper outfit and Trip or Treat to this delightful monstrosity in the Beatles story.

🗣 And field all sorts of fab fan comments along the way.

It was a blast! Special thanks to everyone who came out and joined the conversation. The only thing more fun than making this show is making it with all of you in the virtual room alongside us. So much fun that we're trying something new, releasing this special edition VIDEO PODCAST.

Ep. 78 | Let It Be (1970) 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition Part 3

Move over thrice!!! As part three of our Let It Be 50th Anniversary gabfest, T.J. and Tony inspect the Glyn Johns mixes of 1969's Get Back LP, along with the 12" 4-song EP. Then they crack open the new Get Back book, providing Cliff Notes (and Norm Notes) for its 200 pages, give or take a two. Along the way:

📻 Tony reveals the identity of the villain who calls in all those pesky Beatles covers to 93 XRT

🎸 T.J. offers Garageband tutorials on editing out the new pre-song chatter to "Don't Let Me Down"

🚀 We can all agree that everything sounds better when it is "Super High Mastered"

All that and an order of cheese sauce! The sounds of laughter are inciting and inviting you ho-ho hee-hee ha-ha...

Ep. 77 | Let It Be (1970) 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition Part 2

Move over twice! It's Part 2 of the runaway train that is The Untitled Beatles Podcast as it careens around the Let It Be 50th anniversary box set. This week T.J. and Tony wax ecstatic about Side Two's 2021 mixes then trade favorite studio outtakes. Also, they grumble about what was curiously left off, though they don't know why they're moaning.

Along the way they ask:

📦 Who packaged it better: Universal Music Group or Dr. Ebbetts?

👄 How many ways can two people pronounce the word “warble”?

🎭 What is the name of Paul McCartney’s improv workshoppe and do current students get a discount?

Plus a "controversial" word has T.J. stumbling into blooper hell. You'd hate to miss this train, oh yeah!

Ep. 76 | Let It Be (1970) 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition Part 1

It may have arrived (without traveling/and to prove it, it’s here) a year late, but the Let It Be 50th anniversary box set is finally in our hands. To date, we have 4 LPs! Multiple CDs! BluRay audio! One random EP! And a book! And another book! There’s so much to digest in this universally excellent deluxe set and Get Back book, that this is officially a THREE PART EPISODE. Buckle up, Untitled Beatle People... And, sure, you can say Part 1 of this deep dish is attractively built, even if you’ve never let us be naked. Uh, what? Exactly. And as if there wasn’t a ton of Let It Be material to cover, Tony & T.J. still find time to ask the hard questions, like:

🧇 Who released better 45s, The Beatles or The Waffle House?

Ü  Is T.J.’s favorite Hansen song "Umlaut"?

🎙 Should Tony get a "Poddy" (a podcast Emmy, maybe?) for his dramatic reenactment of Paul McCartney’s letter to Allen Klein?

As Hulk Hogan once said, "You don’t need drugs to move your feet. So when the dealer tries to push on you, just tell him: leave me alone, I’m subscribing to the Untitled Beatles Podcast here!" And, maybe leave us a review wherever you listen, lest Rowdy Roddy Piper’s ghost come back to F you up.

Ep. 75 | The Beatles and Sampling Part 2

The Samples are among Vermont’s finest exports, along with “Newhart”. We don’t get into either in Part 2 of The Beatles & Sampling, but we do explore how DJ’s and better-than-tribute-bands took the work of The Beatles and other artists to weird and sometimes unexpectedly great places. Along the way, DJ’s “Mama” Cas and “This Yam Is Your” Yam yif yif yif about a lot more, like:

🍌 Is joining The Banana Convention worth the risk of smoking, even if the stakes are a dance at Stephen Decatur high school on Saturday night?

👶🏻 Does the new Nirvana “Nevermind” 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition include their rare duet with the Pointer Sisters?

🎸 Anyone up for a GoFundMe to help Beatallica sue the “Yesterday” movie for stealing one of their signature bits?

All this, plus Tony damn straight guaranteeing that we will get to the “Let It Be” 50th and Get Back book next week, and the week after that, and the week after that… Download & subscribe here and here. And leave a review or some likes if you’re feelin’ randy. And maybe ask Randy first.

Ep. 74 | The Beatles and Sampling Part 1

This week, the Untitled Beatles Podcast introduces new hosts, Casio and Yamaha, who kick off a two-parter all about The Beatles and sampling.

From “Yellow Submarine” to, arguably, the greatest Beatles single, “Movie Medley”, Cas & Yam go over some of their favorite samples used by the Fabs and, later, disco-lovin’ producers who were not at all on loads of cocaine. Along the way, the Gab Two get down to the nitty gritty Beatles hot topics the old hosts were, frankly, too cowardly to address, like:

🤠 Who would you rather see at legendary Chicago venue Schubas: Cowboy Mouth or Hillbilly Teeth?

⚾️ Does Tony bat 1.000 while strenuously trying to pronounce difficult European last names?

💡Where does T.J. place 37th Beatle Kenny Loggins on the list of great artists who, like Steve Perry, obviously influenced the Beatles?

To all of our priest listeners, we say sit you down, Father, rest you…as you download and subscribe to our show here. And if you leave us a review, Cas and Yam will send you totally legal re-enactments of laugh track-free episodes of M*A*S*H.
