Ep. 247 | Beatles Anthology Collection 4 Part 2 (2025)

1-2-3-4! Can I have a little more? 5-6-7-8-9-10…instrumental versions of Beatles classics! Is this “The Hollyridge Strings Plays The Beatles”? Nope, it’s the CD and vinyl release of Anthology 4; not to be confused with Anthology 4 on Disney+, not to be confused with the largely different Anthology 4 on DVD/VHS. Make sense, fellow Calderstoners?

With 13 new tracks, plus some choice (and, ahem, choice-adjacent) cuts from the recent deluxe Beatles reissues, there is much genuine Beatle joy to be be found on Anthology 4. A few tracks are revelatory! A few are kick ass! A few are fine! And a few too many, you can #FileUnderANap.

Tony and T.J. look at the highs and lows, both musical and bourbon-influenced, of the most recent entry into The Beatles vast compilation canon. Ep. 246 | Beatles Anthology Collection 4 (2025)

Attention Wealthy Beatles Fans (TM)! How do you feel about 13 tracks? No, not “of whack”, as Walter Becker might have presented us, while he was still alive anyway. But rather, 13 tracks of unearthed Beatles demos & takes, nearly all of which are pure gems, now available on “Anthology 4”.

Awesome, yes? Now, how do you feel about spending $74 for a deluxe vinyl package (excuse me? SIR?) with 36 tracks of whack. Does it make you feel better to know that you’re spending that hard earned cash on 36% “new” material, and; coincidentally, (Beatles) ’64% of music you already bought on previous deluxe reissues? Good news, because as the Fat Boys once sang, “Baby you’re a rich man, too!”

 Look, we like to joke around at the UBP, it’s what makes us Apple’s only legally/emotionally authorized Beatles podcast (TBD). OF COURSE we’re grateful for “new” Beatles goodies we’ve never heard before. Early takes of “Tell Me Why”! “Every Little Thing!” “In My Life”! Surely, “A4” has been curated for both the die-hard and casual Beatles fan, yes? What’s that? Oh you were expecting a “Yes, and?” Well we love improv, too. It’s our water, our oxygen, our physical fitness. In fact, improv is what makes us The Second City’s only legally/emotionally authorized Beatles podcast (TBD).

So not only do Tony & T.J. begin to deep dish “Anthology 4: Less Faster But Even More Furious”, but they yes and themselves into veritable Don knots over:

Ep. 245 | Beatles Anthology Collection 1 – 3 (2025)

It only took 29 years, but we Beatles fans finally have what we’ve all been clamoring for: instrumental “Fool On The Hill.” That’s right, Anthology 4 has arrived! Are you excited? We fans love sequels! Maybe it’s an appetizer to George Harrison’s “Early Takes Volume 2”, which is tentatively scheduled to be released sometime after we’re all dead.

Fortunately, for those of us who remember the excitement for the original Anthology CD’s, the good folks at Apple have finally cleaned up the tracks from volumes 1-3. This week, Tony & T.J. instant-react to those reissues (and/or maybe remixes), in addition to previewing their full-on deep dish of Anthology 4.

Along the way, the boys ask:

🤔 (Angry Chicago Guy:) HOW COME OBAMA TOOK THE MARTIN MULL SITCOM “DOMESTIC LIFE” OFF OF WOR SUPERSTATION? ANY HOW COME I CAN’T FIND “IT’S A LIVING” NO MORE? And can a case be made that “Flashpoint” is actually the best live Stones album, in no small part due to the presence of Chuck Leavell?

Ep. 242 | Macca in NOLA with Mark Guarino!

Legendary Chicago singer/songwriter Steve Goodman once sang of riding the rails on a train known as the City Of New Orleans. We have no idea how Chicago-based UBP listener, friend, and journalist/author Mark Guarino (Country & Midwestern, Chicago Sun Times, ABC-TV) got to the world’s greatest arena, the Smoothie King Center, to see Sir Paul rock NOLA. But, if Mark is a real Chicago guy, he’s probably still been there since the Bears won Super Bowl XX in January of 1986; unarguably the single greatest day in American history unless you hate excellence and joy. #PaytonIsTheGoat

But all that matters is that Mark did manage to see Macca in one of America’s most incredible cities, and he generously reported back on the show and the scene for the rest of us. At an extremely exorbitant fee, I might add. $12,000 for an audio field piece? In this economy, Mark???

Tony & T.J. will give their highly anticipated (editor’s note: by whom?) recap after they see McCartney in Chicago over Thanksgiving week, you turkeys; but in the meantime we’re excited to share another in our continuing series of the UBP Hive seeing Sir Paul live in 2025. We also ask the tough questions that only OAN has the balls to ask, because they’re also insane, just not in a healthy and fun way:

🏈 If Mark Guarino were really former J-E-T-S QB Mark Sanchez, would he have tried to randomly murder an older truck driver during “Dance Tonight”?

🎺 Does Macca traveling with a horn section cause an existential crisis for Paul “Wix” Wickens? And do most of us who’ve been loyal in our jobs for decades now need to worry about being replaced with a horn section? Like, is Paul’s horn section really a metaphor for AI? We talkin’ about practice? Not the game?

(🧀 Angry Chicago Guy:) How come Paul don’t sing no parody of “Obsession”, the Animotion pop hit from 1984 but call it “Concession”, about not letting me buy no nachos during “My Valentine”? And how come the woke smoothie arena don’t got no sodium-free nacho cheese, my wife Diane gave me diabetes during the series finale of “Benson” and I can’t eat that junk no more?

Cricket’s for the birds. It’s October (or was October as of pressing) and the only bats that belong within spitting distance of Capitol Records are made in Louisville right in the heart of the ol’ U.S. of A.

To celebrate the end of another season of America’s pastime, somehow currently dominated by Canadians (#2025), T.J. and Tony resurrect Producer Casey’s most confusing episode concept: THE BEATLE BATTING ORDER — this time constructing their lineups exclusively from stateside releases.

Ep. 240 | Macca in Minneapolis (2025)

Minneapolis! Home of Prince, “Mary Tyler Moore”, and arguably the most exciting NBA player today, Joe Ingles. And of late, it’s home to Producer Casey; who recently took advantage of a last minute opportunity to see Sir Paul McCartney (heard of him, “Beatle fan?”). It’s Casey’s second Macca concert, and, arguably, first-ever concert. Figure that one out, math!

Casey reports back with special inside information (that’s a lie) from where the mini-apple’s mediocre/stupid football team plays (GO BEARS), with news on the Hot City Horns, Minny Moms who Lap Dance, and the still-growing legend of rock’s GOAT. Along the way, the Untitled Trio get a special message from our social media guru Glenny the K, who just saw Paul at Producer Casey’s famous pizzarena. Plus, they also ask:

🍔 Is seeing Macca in Des Moines and not eating a Drake Diner burger doused in homemade 1000 island dressing beforehand meant to be a huge middle finger to T.J.? Or does it just come off that way because of the ongoing paranoia?
